People nowadays have easy access to making a film and putting it on the internet for thousands of people to see. According to Study.com, in the article, Becoming a Filmmaker: Education and Training, people used to have to go through a lot of schooling and experience to make films similar to ones made on iphones today.
To become a professional filmmaker people used to have to go to film school, earn a bachelor's, or even a masters degree to have the knowledge of working a camera. To be able to create a film and put it out in the world, you need to have exceptional experience and a lot of connections to be able to “make it” in the film industry. Not only do you have to know how to work all the technical equipment, you need to have an eye for photography and ideas that have never been used. Networking is crucial in the big industry. It all about who you know, how credible you are and how many people like you.
Contrary to everything in the first paragraph, you could “make it” with an iphone and instagram account in today’s world. You don’t have to know big name actors or directors to get your work seen by a lot of people. You don’t have to have experience with 100,000 dollar cameras. All you need is the slow-motion effect on you iphone camera and Imovie, which comes free with your phone. Example #1: myself. I have put together videos and posted them on instagram, all of which average about 4,000 views. I did actually use a professional Canon camera, but I still have easy access to a source that grants thousands of people the ability to see my work. I didn’t have to network or earn a master’s at an art and design school. This shows you just how easy it is to be a filmmaker in today’s world.
So obviously having the ability and capacity to make a film is easy and the opportunity is presented to anyone who has a phone. But, Is the quality of the camera and the editing software on a phone as good as professional cameras and software?
