Flaws of Capitalism
When researching capitalism and why it could be potentially harmful I feel compelled to research philosophical studies. The German philosopher Karl Marx was a devoted socialist, as well as a journalist who wrote about the exploitation caused capitalism. In capitalism there is a free market. This means that citizens are free to buy and sell to whomever they please. They set their own prices, and are able to choose between what goods to purchase. Karl Marx´s principles can be applied to factory farming today. According to Frank W. Elwell, ¨Agriculture too is transformed through science to become an exploitive relationship in which the crops and people are treated as commodities; millions are removed from the land as corporate farms replace the family farms of the past. ¨
In the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy it is said that Aristotle believed, ¨a just exchange will embody a kind of reciprocity such that the values of the goods exchanged are proportional¨. Now, it seems that it would be strange that someone would disagree with this statement. Although it is much more difficult for this idea to play itself out in a supply and demand society. For one, humans by nature are looking out for themselves and are not directly affected by things they don´t see everyday. Also, when we look at the current big sellers they are making way more money than who they are selling to.

ReplyDeleteI like how you described Karl Marx's ideas and how you tied them into your main idea. However, it would be nice if you would bold your thesis statement and write your future question at the end.
ReplyDeleteI like the use of different philosophers and opinions in your blog. It would be cool to see different philosophers clash against each other and how that supports your argument
