Imagine paying more for a worst product. According to the Tax Policy Center, an urban institute and booking institution the U.S. spends an extraordinary amount of money on healthcare. In some cases the nation even loses money trying to make the current healthcare plans affordable for people. In my opinion, the current policies our nation has in place in regards to healthcare is resulting in us as consumers and a nation losing money and not getting the care we need.
According to the Tax Policy Center, the U.S. spent $980 billion on healthcare plans across the nation in 2015. In addition to, the government lost roughly $260 billion in tax expenditures. In my opinion, this is way too much. We as a nation are losing money to pay for plans and programs that do not actually help anyone. How does affordable health care work when the guy who doesn’t qualify for benefits, paying taxes for someone else’s healthcare, can’t afford to pay his own medical bills.
On top of all the money that goes into to paying for healthcare, people can not afford the plans that are being put out. As a means of making it “easier” for people to afford healthcare, the government gives both individuals and businesses tax breaks in order to afford to pay for the plans, As a result the government lost another $250 billion in income taxes. The money we lose is not even worth it. When you give someone a tax break for health care plan that doesn’t give them what they need it kind of defeats the purpose.
