Impact of Universal Healthcare on Doctors

Doctor’s main concerns are how they are getting paid and how their patients are paying for healthcare. Even though doctors would get paid less if there was universal healthcare in the U.S., most seem to like the idea. Joyce Frieden , a writer for Medpage Today,  explains the effect of universal healthcare on doctors. It provides healthcare and an opportunity for more poor patients to get care and they still get paid a good amount. A downside is that there would be a huge political impact on healthcare because the government is paying for it.
Doctors in the U.S. have a higher income because we do not have universal healthcare. It would decrease if we did, but only by a little bit. In countries where there is universal healthcare, doctors do not need to “pay their healthcare costs and the amount of time spent on administrative tasks” is way less than the time spent in the U.S. There is less administrative tasks because these government does them. With the extra time, doctors can treat more patients.

The decisions are not only medical decisions. They are political. The government would have to decide all the prices. People “have to make political calculations, like how much [they] are going to spend” and what the reimbursements will be.

The best way to get into universal healthcare would be a gradual approach. There would be a “public option that allows people to buy into the Medicare program voluntarily.” Eventually everyone would more into universal healthcare.
