The Cost and Benefits of Increased military spending

www.cnbc.com

As you now know from the last post the United states spends more money on the military than any country, however if you're someone like President Trump you would want to increases the military  budget. Today I will be assessing the pros and cons of increasing the military budget using the article "The Costs and Benefits of Increased Military Spending" published by the university of California Santa Barber newspaper, The Bottom Line.

First we will asses the pros of increased military spending. The military is a huge industry economically, employing over 3.5 million people. Without these jobs due to the military the employment rate will dive down from 9.5% to 11.5%. Hence an increase in military budget causes more jobs which correlates to a bigger better economy with a lower unemployment rate. As Americans we do not really stress about war at home because our military is so huge it gives us a feeling of safety and the rise of threats from ISIS and North Korea is making American citizens feel unsafe. In this sitituation increasing the military spending would be wise and justified.

Now the cons of increasing the military spending. Anybody with an education level above the 1st grade knows that money does not grow on trees so what money will the government pump into the militarily and where is it coming from? Trump's scheme is to reduce spending from many programs including education, and
environment and order to support the increase in military spending. Also he will cut the budget of the I.R.S by 14% this means there will be less investigation for tax fraud, ID thief and cyber crimes meaning more crime in the financial sector.

Future Research Question: How do other countries spend their federal budget?
