Incentives to Play Rugby in College

https://varsitycup.us
So, like I have said in my past posts, rugby is a growing sport. It is slowly becoming more and more popular throughout the United States, so is the same thing true for college teams? Well, one can assume that as the sport grows, so does a number of people who will want to play in college, and so will a number of college teams. But, many people seem to stray away from rugby since we, as Americans, hold football very dear to our heart, and because it can just plain weird. But in an article by a college rugby player in November of 2016, Anna DiGiacomo says why someone should play rugby.
For one, it can get people into shape. With the big fear of the freshman fifteen, joining a rugby team or club might be a great idea for people who are wanting to get in better shape and burn off a few extra calories. Also, rugby has fifteen different positions that all require different skill sets, so anyone is able to play. So with rugby, comes the incentive of becoming stronger and healthier. It can also be therapeutic. With college comes a lot of stress, and it can be hard to find an outlet for that. But if you join rugby, the whole game is about hitting people. So the stress about your biology test? Gone. Rugby can also get you a fat scholarship. Since many people still don’t play rugby, colleges are always looking for more people to play, they might even be willing to pay you for it. One of my teammates from last year was able to go to Queen’s University on a full ride because she played rugby. So, you get all of your college completely free. That’s pretty sweet.
So, obviously, the incentives have not always been like this. Back when rugby was not a sport in the United States, they did not have any of these types of incentives. Even as it began to grow, people did not care about it enough to give money for you to play or for you to play and experience all the incentives it has to offer. But, as rugby has grown as a sport, so have the incentives. More colleges have been adding teams and therefore have been in need of players, so they give scholarships the kids who want to play for them. As rugby grows into a bigger phenomenon, the incentives will continue to grow as well.
